Depicting Joan of Arc displaying her piety by bowing her head whilst clutching the Sword of St. Catherine. Having impressed signature at base "Princesse D'Orleans", Foundry mark "SOCIETE DES BRONZES DE PARIS" and "S 3611" impressed to the base. Princess Marie D'Orleans was the daughter of French king Louis-Philippe and was commissioned by her father to create the original in marble (currently in the Museum of Versailles). The sculpture earned high praise at the Salon of 1837 and the king authorized a bronze reproduction. This 19th c. example is one of several reductions.
