Inscribed lower right: "Gerbéviller incendie pour les Allemands Le 24 Aout 1914 Bataile de Grand Couronné de Nancy Aout-Septembre". Artist signed and dated 1915 lower left, In a period wood, gesso and gold leaf period frame H 35", W 42.5". The Battle of Grand-Couronné was the first major battle to start WWI. Provenance: Property from a Bloomfield Township, MI private collection.
Original canvas, stretcher, and frame. No damage to canvas. There appears to be overpaint (over the varnish in the clouds center left. Original varnish. Craquelure is stable.
