AMERICAN NEEDLEWORK VERSE SAMPLER, MARY SHAW, C. 1793, 9 1/2" X 9 3/4":Probably silk on linen, rendered in shades of cream, green and brown, the verse above reads "Education form's the virtuous mind. As the twig bends the tree is inclind [sic].", with birds and flowers below, "Mary Shaw, Sep. 12th 1793" below, within a flowering vine border, under glass in a late 19th century painted wood frame. - See additional pictures.
