Each tin panel applied to the back of a scalloped edge painted frame. The viewer side of each frame encases each tin panel having hand painted scenes of either young maidens or cherubs. Five panels depict scenes classical maidens with either swans or doves. Two panels depict cherubs. 1) maiden seated by a mountain lake with two doves descending to her basket of roses. 2) Three cherubs lifting a drapery filled with roses to the sky. 3) Three cherubs picking pink and white roses from bushes. 4) Two classical maidens recoiling from an aggressive swan. 5) Two classical maidens amongst roses as a swan swims in a lake. 6) Classical maiden smelling flowers in a meadow as two doves descend. One dove holds a letter in its beak. 7) Classical maiden seated on a rock as she feeds a swan. Provenance: Property from a Milford, MI private collector.

Condition

While all of the frames show evidence of having been painted over decades and the versos have all been painted over the tin and frames, the viewers sides have remarkably little touch up. All have losses as evident in the photographs. 1) Retains several areas with its early varnish. Three areas of loss in sky above white dove. 2) Majority of the early varnish remains. Two areas show areas of white paint over the varnish (visible at cherub's foot and sky lower right. 3) Retains most of its early varnish. 3" long area of impact losses center right (visible on photo), 4) Retains most of its original varnish. Very minor losses. 5) Showing evidence of significant losses upper half of image (visible in photo). 6) Very minor losses. Two areas by the wing of the dove with letter show losses due to scratches. 7) Retains most of its original varnish. Light scratch in sky just above feeding swan's wings.
