AMERICAN, WATERCOLOR ON PAPER, 1862, H 12", L 9", LT. OF THE 40TH NEW YORK VOLUNTEERS:Depicting a Civil War Lt. of the 40th New York Volunteers, Mozart Regiment. The Mozart served as guards of the Monocacy of the Potomac. The 40th was ordered near a camp at Conrad's Ferry, and later to the Monocacy. The soldier rests his arm on a pup tent. Initialed "J.H." in lower right. Titled and dated in the lower left, " On Picket, Mouth of the Monocacy Oct. 1862". Letter on verso - U. S. Military Academy. Framed. Framed. Ex.
