ANCESTRAL CHINESE ALTAR SHRINE CABINET CIRCA 1900 H 17 1/2" W 13" D 5 1/2":The shrine is wood and gilded. With a painted lacquer panel inside and also inside the doors. Southern China for straits Chinese Market ca. 19th century.
Condition
Good antique condition. The cabinet has mortis and tenon and dove tail construction. On the left door, at the upper left corner, there is a 1 1/2" flake chip to the wood. The second, gilt decorative panel on this door, has a crack across the center. The interior panels on each door are bowed from age. The left interior panel has some chipping, to the lacquer at the lower left edge. The right interior panel has an approx. 2 1/2' hairline crack in the lacquer. The interior back panel has two hairline cracks emanating from the bottom and extending to the center of the panel. There is a 1" long and 1/8" wide chip to the lacquer in one of the cracks. The condition is commensurate with age. This is a beautiful Altar cabinet. TW 3-30-17
