ATT. TO NICHOLAES PICKENOY ELIASZ, OIL ON WOOD PANEL, 1631, H 49", W 39":Oil on cradled wood panel. Portrait of lady with lace collar and cuffs. Inscribed: "Aetatis 19 Anno 1631". Attributed to Nicholaes Pickenoy Eliasz, Dutch 1588 - 1650. From a Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. collector.
The Nicolaes Pickenoy Eliasz portrait on board was purchased from Alfred Bader, an art collector in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A curator at the Detroit Institute of Arts identified it again as a Nicolaes Pickenoy Eliasz painting from its style and greenish brown shadows. Restoration (As viewed under UV light in the unopened frame: slight amount of overpainting showing in her hair and dress; cradled panel has 3 long, vertical cracks as seen from the front and a few smaller, sporadic cracks; panel now has shifted to the right in the frame; antique frame with wear.
