Frost and Reed label reads "M. Simons, A Cluster of Fruit & Flowers, Registered Number 1318". The painting was examined by H. Lester Cooke, Curator of Painting at the National Gallery of Art, February 19, 1964. Photographs of the painting were submitted to the Netherlands Institute for Art History. H. Lester Cooke arranged for analysis of the chemical composition of pigments at the Smithsonian Institution in 1966. Painting was at Conservation Analytical Laboratory of the Smithsonian Institute from February - June 1966 and the pigments were analyzed by Dr. and Mrs. Charles H. Olin (please see summary of results on verso of frame). Provenance: Mrs. Kate Marlow of Richmond, Surrey; Sold at Christie, Manson & Woods (July 21, 1944, No. 93 in catalogue, Stock No. 275 HK), Purchased by Frost & Reed Ltd, London and Bristol (with paper label verso, Registration Number 1318) May 1945; Vixseboxse Art Galleries, Cleveland, Ohio; Dr. and Mrs Louis Witzman, Akron, OH; Gift of Mrs. Louis A Witzeman, to her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Richard W. Edwards, Jr., Washington DC in November 1963.
