Unsigned. Feigned oval composition, half length portrait of a gentleman in a powdered wig and wearing a blue coat with a lace cravat. Having a Masonic square and compass pin at the collar and on the buttons of the coat. Hand written label on the verso attributing the sitter as James Grimshaw of Andershaw 1689-1772. Dunns' Depostiories, Bromley, Kent, printed label dated 1935 on the stretcher verso. Having a giltwood and gesso frame, H 35.5",

Condition

Relined. Thin layer of varnish fluoresces under UV light. No visible evidence of restoration or patching.
