CHINESE BRASS INLAID PEWTER SWEETMEAT BOX, 19TH C., W 17":A pewter and brass inlaid box with removable lid in butterfly form, decorated with blossoming flowers, phoenixes and sparrows, fitted with 9 porcelain dishes with a turquoise ground. Measures approximately H.10" x 17" x 2". From the collection of Mrs. G. G. Scranton, international traveler from the late 1800's to the mid twentieth century. Friend and patron of Mrs. Dagny Carter, a notable scholar, influenced this collection.
Condition
The lid of the box is slightly bent inward. There are surface scratches and signs of use overall. Middle section is broken in multiple pieces, please see photo. One porcelain dish is chipped.
