CHINESE FIGHTING SHUANGJIAN (DOUBLE SWORDS) AND SCABBARD, 19TH C, 3 PCS., L 26" BLADE:Two swords in one ray skin scabbard. Both having double edged blades, flat on one side and ending in sharp points. Each blade also has seven brass inlaid dots representing Ursa Major (Big Dipper) an important constellation in Taoism. Bronze guards with scroll designs. Pommel is also of bronze with dragon motif. Carved wood grips with pierced brass ferrules with dragons. They are exact mirror images of each other and appear as one sword in the scabbard. Scabbard has pierced design bronze hangers. Pierced design brass chape and locket. From the collection of Mrs. G. G. Scranton, international traveler from the late 1900's to the mid twentieth century. Friend and patron of Mrs. Dagny Carter, a notable scholar, influenced this collection. upper hanger slides along scabbard. Some wear to finish to some bronze pieces and ray skin on scabbard. Caution blades are sharp.
