Claudy Jongstra studied fashion design at the Utrecht School of Arts between 1982 and 1989. Her oeuvre is characterized by her use of wool and other natural fibers in the form of handcrafted felt. Much of the wool she uses is from Drenthe Heath Sheep, an ancient indigenous sheep breed that survives thanks to Jongstra. She dyes the wool and other natural fibers with natural pigments from pigment plants cultivated on her own farm. Her work is included in many private and corporate collections as well as museum collections like the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
