CONTINENTAL HAND PAINTED & ENAMELED BOX, 18TH C., H 1 5/8", L 3 1/2', D 2 1/2":A mid-18th century hand-painted and enameled box. Of rectangular form, finely decorated with Rococo-style decoration throughout above a blue enamel ground. The top with a central cartouche depicting a pastoral scene with figures, surrounded by painted floral festoons and putti, as well as a raised gilt scrolling to border, with hinged cover, the sides with various pastoral scenes, surrounded by continuing polychrome and gilt painted designs. With small unidentified mark to underside.
Condition
The enameled decoration is in very good condition, with minor losses and scratches throughout. The body of the box appears to have detached from the frame at some point, and has since been repaired by hot glue. With what appears to be isolated small deposits of hot glue to underside.
