ENGLISH HEPPLEWHITE MAHOGANY DINING CHAIRS, C. 1785, SET OF EIGHT:Including 2 armchairs and 6 side chairs; each has a shield-form back with carved wheat design, raised on square tapering legs joined by stretchers. Provenance: Stair & Co., New York, NY, purchased in October 1983.

One chair has repairs to the top of the back rest and at the side.  This appears to be an old repair and is well done. The top is done with round mortise and tenon joints.  Another chair has a repaired crack at the top of the back rest. This repair is also well done.  One arm chair has a small repair at the center of the back rest.  The chairs are solid and sturdy.  They each have a few minor nicks to the bottom of the legs, from age and use.  These chairs are beautiful period pieces.
