Approximately five strands of hair purported to have belonged to American general and first President George Washington. Mounted in a giltwood frame. Includes a certificate of authenticity from University Archives, #8383, signed by John Reznikoff, president of University Archives. Also includes a letter from handwriting expert Charles Hamilton that transcribes an envelope notation (which we do not have) from the Custis-Powell family that read: "Lock of hair from the head of Gen. George Washington. Given to Col. Powel by Mrs. Powel who had it from Mrs. Custis L. Powel". Provenance: University Archives, 1-7-2021.
