Signed by the artist on the justification page, stamped in red number 581 of the 600 copies for America. 167 woodcuts by Masereel with a foreword by Romain Rolland. First Limited Edition, self-published in 1922. This work by the Flemish-born master of wood engraving was originally published in Geneva in 1919 under the title Mon Livre d'Heures, then re-published the next year in Germany under the title Mein Stundenbuch, and then in America with this title, My Book of Hours. It was later published under the title Passionate Journey, the one by which it is now generally known. Provenance: Sheldon Ross Gallery, Birmingham, Michigan; Property from the Estate of David Lebenbom, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan with time staining, extremities rubbed and with a few bumps, losses and cracking along the spine. | Please note all lots show signs of wear commensurate with age and use, and the lack of a statement regarding condition does not imply the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from defects or the effects of aging.
