French Repousse Sterling Silver Box, Courting Scene, C. 1890, H 2.5'' W 5'' L 7'' 11.5t oz A handmade French repousse sterling silver hinged box, circa 1890. Offers an 18th century courting scene, probably depicting Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI of France. The lid opens to reveal a brilliant gold wash. Bearing the import mark, "N" monogram and fleur-de-lis impressed to the underside. Total weight: 11.5 troy ounces.
When viewed under natural light, no losses or visible abrasions were observed. Interior is clean and free from signs of use.
