Unsigned half-length portrait of an officer in a blue uniform with silver braiding. Likely a Prussian officer. Prominent facial scar to the mouth with a feathered hat to his right. Wearing a badge of the Order Pour Le Merite. Notation on verso reads in French "Painted by C.F. Wesfel 1775". Having a giltwood and gesso frame, 40" x 30.5". Partial German transport labels on the stretcher.

Canvas relined. Burlap backing. Professional restoration with scattered overpainting including the left eye, to the right of the nose and areas of the uniform. Remnants of varnish fluoresce under UV light.
