English Sterling bearing the markers of H.S., a lion passant, uncrowned leopard and date mark of upper case "E" signifying 1940. Further marked 'Stabler' English silversmith and designer Harold Stabler. Retailed by Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company LTD. On a sloping curved base alternating Art Deco and geometric panels, the faceted deep bowl is decorated in acanthus panels and has bold ring handles at the side. Trademark "GS". Accompanying plateau bears the same marks as the bowl. Having a black glass top. Total weight: 79.38 troy ounces. Provenance: Property from a Private Collection, Franklin, MI
