This is the early Maquette before the wall was added and the seat was changed. It then was titled "Armless Seated Figure Against a Round Wall", 1957. Wood stand display Plinth, L. 9 1/2".This rare example of a blem, that later exceeded the three dimensional, overall appearance better than the series "armless figure against a wall'. Provenance: Cast bronze, c. 1957, includes original wood base. A gift from Moore directly to B.J.M. Payne (the sculptures' modeler and MGR at "Art Bronze Foundry"). He was unhappy with the piece, he wanted to change the bench and add a wall behind the seated figure, he  knew Mr. Payne was a fan and a friend and would appreciate it. Letter from son of Mr. Payne on file. Included with lot, various historical photos inside foundry, book, letter from son of Mr. Payne.
