Hope Brooks Meryman, a former editor for Life Magazine, graduated from the Connecticut College for Women, and then studied at the Art Students League Pratt Institute and the New School. She worked in watercolors and woodcuts and had exhibitions at the Associated American Artists Gallery and at the National Academy of Design. She illustrated several books for children and won an award from the American Library Association in 1974 for her illustrations for ìWhy the Sky Is Far Away.î
