JOHN SPEED, A MAP OF NEW ENGLAND AND NEW YORK C. 1676 H 16" W 21":Described as New Netherlands and New England. Sold by Tho. Basset in Fleet street and Richard Chiswell in St. Paul's Church Yard. An English version of the maps of Jansson and Visscher.This is one of the earliest maps to illustrate the dramatic shift from Dutch to English dominance in the Northeast in the latter part of the 17th century. It does so by changing most of the place names from the Dutch to the British.
