EVANS (AMERICAN, 1855-1952), PUBLISHING PROOF OF ILLUSTRATION, 1898, H 3 1/2", W 3", "AT THE OLD BULL'S HEAD":The hand-made publishing proof of a James Edward Kelly illustration for Scribner's Monthly, signed by the engraver John W. Evans. It was included in the January 1879 publication. Accompanied by a photo-engraving copy of illustration found in Scribner's. The engraving with Kelly's signature in plate to left corner, and signed in pencil and dated by the engraver lower right. The engraving with foxing throughout the lower half, and some minor toning. The photo-engraving copy has not been examined outside of the frame.
