An oil on canvas in the manner of Jean-Marc Nattier's 1748 painting titled, "Madame Louise De France." Louise-Marie of France (1737-1787) was the youngest child of King Louis XV. The princess entered the Carmelite convent in Saint-Denis in 1770 and became venerated by the Roman Catholic Church, having been declared Venerable by Pope Pius IX. Unsigned. Frame measures H 41" x L 35". Provenance: a Jackson, Michigan estate.
When viewed under UV light, areas of inpainting fluoresced throughout. Major damage and losses to the frame. Please note all lots show signs of wear commensurate with age and use, and the lack of a statement regarding condition does not imply the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from defects or the effects of aging.
