Provenance: Property of a Southfield, MI private collector who purchased it from an Oakland County, MI estate as part of a private sale c. 2010. According to the estate executor, the work was originally purchased by the owner's deceased son who had collected art while living in New York. This work, along with other works in the son's estate, were shipped to Michigan where they remained until sold or dispersed c. 2010. We would like to thank Anneliis Beadnell, Archivist to the Estate of Martin Wong and Co-Editor of the Martin Wong Catalogue Raisonne, Martin Wong Foundation/Stanford Libraries, for confirming that a photograph of this work is in the artists' archive which dates the work circa 1978-79. Because the image in the archive was poorly lit, and its whereabouts were unknown, it was not included in the current Catalogue Raisonne. This work will be reviewed by the editors in the fall of 2023 for inclusion in 2024.
