MINTONS PATE-SUR-PATE PORCELAIN INK STAND AND LETTER RACK, LATE 19TH C., H 6", W 9 3/4":Partial book form ink stand and letter rack, a rectangular reserve with white slip displaying seven small children or cherubs in various hunting and gathering pursuits; a shell form cartouche at the front flanked by ribbons and garlands, gilt stylized openwork at both sides and back support a book style ribbed edge contained by engaged columns.  Signed with initial 'M'.  Gilt globe stamp, impressed shape number, and probable year cypher noted at the underside (marks are faint and illegible).  Measures approximately H.6" x 9 3/4" x 5 3/4".  Reference: The Dictionary of Minton, Atterbury and Batkin, p.246.

Condition

Gilt losses to the back, two breaks noted to the openwork on one side.   The inkwells and lids also have wear from use.  Very small few areas of gilt paint touch-up that lightly fluoresce under UV light noted to the back.   One ink pot has a 1/16" chip at the rim and the other ink pot has a restored rim. Possible restoration to the top back corners.  Ad/TW 9-7-17
