OGLALA SIOUX BEADED HIDE WAR SHIRT, H 36", L 65":Probably 20th century. "Mother Earth Warrior Shirt". Created by Kevin Fast Horse of the Oglala Sioux. Beaded using colors of green, red, yellow, and various shades of blue; with a triangular beaded panel framed with fringe by the collar on one side, the other side decorated with ermine fur and fringe; having long fringe and beaded panels to sleeves and cuffs. Sleeve to sleeve measuring 65". From the artist: "Green represents plants, trees, and purifying power. White represents the spirit and breath. Blue represents water, which is needed for life. Red represents physical life, the blood, the people, and all things that are sacred. Yellow represents wisdom, knowledge, and the healing power of the sun. The fringe is there to catch the wind. The Native American believes that there is always something good blowing in the wind."
