SEVRES PORCELAIN COVERED URNS, 19TH CENTURY, PAIR, H 27":Gilt decorated cobalt blue ground with polychrome beaded enamel portraits of King Louis XIV and members of the court, including Maria Theresa of Spain, his second wife Fran‡oise d'Aubign‚, Marquise de Maintenon, Louise de la Valliere, King Louis XVI, and Marie Antoinette, among others. Bronze bases and lids, elongated Greek key and gilt swags atop and enameled pendants about the foot. From The George and Penny Simon Collection, Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.

Condition

The original porcelain lids have been replaced with the current bronze lids. One urn has six chip repairs to the gold trim frame, around the portraits. Four of these repairs are approx. 1" in length and two of the repairs are 1/2" in length. There are also two glaze chips on the gold trim around the portraits , they are 1/8" and 1/2" in size. The other urn has a 1/8" glaze chip on the gold in the same area. These chip repairs and glaze chips are old and are commensurate with the age of the urns. TW 4-22-17
