This object is a trumpet that was used by the Gbanggbani society of Sierra Leone to ward off witchcraft. Reportedly, when the trumpet was blown, all of the women would run and hide but a witch would remain, frozen in place by the sound. Side blown trumpet in the form of a female figure with hands clasped at abdomen. The legs of the figure are carved on the back of the trumpet. Three horizontal bands are carved above the back of the waist and at the figure's neck. Wear to large surface of trumpet, including the back, the neck and chest, and the area near the hands.
