Left side of receiver marked with both the Manufactured by the American Machine Works, Springfield, MA mark and Poultney & Trimble, Baltimore, USA stamp. Below impressed Smiths Patent June 23, 1857. Serial #231 impressed on both Left side of barrel impressed inspector mark "JH". Left side of stock impressed "FH" inspector mark in a cartouche. The part octagonal and part round barrel 21 5/8". Barrel fitted with original blade front sight and folding ladder rear sights. Hand rubbed walnut stocks. Provenance: Generations of family descent to a Grosse Pointe Woods, MI consignor.
