SWISS MARQUETRY INLAY MUSIC BOX, C1840, H 12", W 28', D 15":Swiss Marquetry inlay and black enamel, ten song music box. Hinged lid has inlays of a small boy playing a flute next to a lamb with a farm house in the background. Black enamel and glass inner access door opens to a brass cylinder with 10 songs, also additional percussion instruments including a small tambourine, bells and a wood block. Marked: "M F 1840" on song label on inside of lid.
 

Condition

losses to inlays with some chips in envelope inside box, slight warp to lid due to age otherwise good condition for its age, GA. The 7th hammer on the drum is disengaged. The pad over the left comb does not move, it only remains in the lower position. The levers below the combs work. There are no missing teeth om the combs. Three pulls of the winder allows the box to play approx. 2 minutes. When wound it sounded as only one melody was playing, even with the pauses between songs.
