Day two of the December Auctions at DuMouchelles promises to delight, featuring a diverse array of art that spans genres, eras, and continents. The day is headlined by a mesmerizing Italian School oil on copper plate "Madonna And Child," attributed to the Orazio Gentileschi school, which is expected to draw significant attention with its delicate portrayal and historical significance.
The auction also features an exquisite Thomas Moran watercolor, "Amagansett Landscape," capturing the serene shores of Long Island. This piece, alongside Myron Barlow's "French Interior with Two Women," an oil painting showcasing intimate domestic elegance, represents the richness of American and European art traditions.
A highlight for collectors of urban scenes is Guy Carleton Wiggins' "Looking Down Fifth Avenue, from the Plaza, New York," an oil on canvas panel that brilliantly captures the bustling energy of New York City.
The day's offerings are further enriched by Chuang Che's "Landscape IV," an oil and collage on canvas, and Fernand Leger's "Columbe Aux Fleurs," a gouache and watercolor piece that exemplifies the vibrancy and innovation of 20th-century art. These modern works are contrasted beautifully with Romare Bearden's "Enchanted Woman," a collage and mixed media piece that is a standout lot, expected to fetch a high price.
A rare find in the auction is George Grosz's "Headless Nude," a charcoal on laid paper that reflects the intriguing style of this German artist. Meanwhile, a painting of an "Austrian Village" by Anton Faistaur provides a glimpse into serene European landscapes.
Day two also features works by notable artists such as Achille-Émile Othon Friesz and George Cole, each bringing their unique perspectives and styles to the auction. The day will be rounded out with an array of other significant pieces, including works by Jim Clary, Maite Delteil, and a collection of lithographs by Pablo Picasso.
