A NORWEGIAN CARVED BIRCHWOOD TANKARD, 18TH C., H 9", DIA 6 1/8":A Norwegian birch peg tankard. The domed covered, centered by a carved, crowned lion holding a spear, with recumbent lion thumbpiece and a small kick to the C-shaped handle, the cylindrical body carved with a hunter and his hound tracking an elk ('moose') through a forest landscape, raised on three carved recumbent lion supports.
Accompanied by original receipt from the Danish antique shop "Ive" at Ostergade 44, Copenhagen, dated 8-29-1970.
Condition
With isolated instances of cracking to wood, to the back of the domed cover near the lion, and along the back of the body by the handle. With wear, loss, and marks throughout consistent with age and use.
