Worn as part of the Baule theatrical tradition known as “Mblo,” combining dramatic skits and solo dances, this type of mask would have been sculpted as an idealized representation of the prominent member of the community. White pigment (possibly kaolin) decorates the eyes. A delicately textured tri-part coiffure and facial scarifications are also features of this mask.
