Kete peoples border the southern edge of the Kuba kingdom (today central Democratic Republic of Congo). As such, their masks share many similarities, including conical eyes and carved or painted geometric patterns. The shape of this mask and the numerous geometric patterns suggest this mask may be part of funeral masking (inhuba). Provenance: Property from a Bloomfield Township, MI private collection.
Some loss to pigment across mask.
