Bernard Pothast was born in 1882 in Hal, Belgium. He studied painting at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam between 1904 and 1907. From the collection of Michael J. Kearins, who lived in Grosse Pointe Shores and acquired fine paintings circa 1930 - 40. Works have remained in the family through three generations until this time. Size is canvas only.

As viewed under UV light in the unopened frame:  slight edge of painting overpainting; not lined; period gilt frame with cracks is slightly chipped.
