Flemish Baroque Style Oil On Canvas, 19Th C, H 38.25", W 38.25", Madonna With Child And Elizabeth | A 19th century Flemish Baroque style oil on canvas. Depicting the Virgin Mary with child and the counsel of Elizabeth, who once exclaimed: "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!" (Luke 1:41, 42) Unsigned. Frame measures H 45.25" x L 45.25".
When viewed under UV light, areas of spot-cleaned varnish fluoresced. Having a moderate degree of inpainting to all quadrants. Inpainting is most notable to the upper right and lower right quadrants. Having a dense network of old crackling throughout the visible image. The verso reveals skillful conservation regarding multiple tears on the canvas (notably effecting the front-facing right side of composition). Please note all lots show signs of wear commensurate with age and use, and the lack of a statement regarding condition does not imply the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from defects or the effects of aging.
