Slightly concave ogival face. Flattened brass or copper strips hammered into the wood begin at the center of the figure's face and wrap around to the back, except for where a rectangular metal plate has been fastened above the eyes and nose, extending to the top of the face. At this point on the figure, a flattened brass or copper strip is wrapped around a bun-like protuberance. At the opposite end of the brass plate, filaments extend downward from the eyes and nose to form a triangle shape, suggesting the shape of an open mouth. The brass or copper on the back of the figure is decorated, most likely by punched holes, with zigzag patterns. The 'neck' of the figure, which now acts as a handle, is also wrapped a thin metal filament. A hole has been drilled in the wooden handle to be fitted on a base. Presented on a black steel base, overall height 17 1/2".

Condition
Minimal losses to the brass wrapping. Wrapping on the right side of the figure is excellent. The left side of the figure has minor areas of loss. Very good condition considering the approximate age of this item. Significant oxidation/verdigris of brass on back of figure. Back left-side brass plates have fractured in multiple places but are stable and intact. Figure has an encrusted layer of debris, suggesting it may have been buried or underground at some point. | Please note all lots show signs of wear commensurate with age and use, and the lack of a statement regarding condition does not imply the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from defects or the effects of aging.
