Pewabic white clay body. Glazed in two shades of mottled brown matte with turquoise highlights. Having medallion paper label with black dark letters 7/8" dia. Pen tray edges merge into the body of the inkwell and spiral to form a snail shell. Snail shell lid. Exhibited 1904 St. Louis Exhibition as documented in Pewabic Pottery archives and illustrated in the archival photograph depicting some of the pieces sent to the exhibition. Provenance: This inkwell was used by Mary Chase Perry Stratton at Pewabic Pottery until her death in 1961; Property of a prominent metro Detroit collector of Pewabic Pottery.
