On Pewabic white clay body. Gourd form with stem form lid. Underside is fully glazed with a hint of the Pewabic "Arc" mark. This piece was inventoried on Charles Lang Freer's "Miscellaneous List, May 1917". "5531. (2282) One Gourd-shaped Jar, with cover. Made by Miss Perry. Pewabic. Gift." There is a later notation that this piece was returned to Miss Perry. Listed in Miss Perry's Day Book on December 5th, 1904 under the heading "Museum of Art" as #24 "Freer Tobacco Jar". Exhibited in the First Annual Exhibition of Arts and Crafts, held that the Detroit Museum of Art, December 6 to 20, 1904. Exhibited 1904 St. Louis Exhibition as documented in Pewabic Pottery archives and illustrated in the archival photograph depicting some of the pieces sent to the exhibition.
