MINTONS PATE-SUR-PATE PORCELAIN RETICULATED CENTERPIECE BY LAWRENCE BIRKS, 1882-1883, L 17":An oval centerpiece from a dessert service, with ribbon reticulation and stand; the centerpiece with elaborate acanthus leaf handles separated by interludes of B?rainesque scrollwork; white slip decoration of a reclining group of cherubs listening to music, at reverse two putti fly amongst streamers and birds. Decorated by Lawrence Birks, monogrammed. The separate base with gilt strapwork and feet in a similar motif. Each piece is impressed MINTONS, shape number 2461, and gilt globe stamp mark. Condition
Two feet have been repaired on the centerpiece, one of which has chips. A third foot of the centerpiece has a chip, as well. An approximate quarter area of the base shows restoration under UV light. Even so, the base has been nicely restored.
