MINTONS PATE-SUR-PATE PORCELAIN COVERED URN BY LAWRENCE BIRKS, C.1893, H 14 3/4", W 9 1/4":A classical urn form with linked gilt handles, foliate scrollwork over lavender bands leads to two vignettes: one depicting the muse of music playing the tambourine, and at the opposing side a rose swag entwined with a tambourine; acanthus leaf finial and square base.  Decorated by Lawrence Birks, monogrammed.  Impressed MINTONS, year cypher, incuse 469, and gilt printed globe mark.  Reference: Minton: the First Two Hundred Years of Design and Production, Jones, p.86.

Catalogue note: 'Vase with Perforated Chain Handles', after a Sevres model; influence of eighteenth century Sevres on Minton was considerable.

Condition

There is a nick to one corner at the bottom of the base approx. 1/16" in size.  There is a nick to the  upper edge of the base approx. 1/32" in size.  There is some minor wear to the gold trim at the interior rim. Otherwise in good condition for age and use. TW 9-12-17
