Mask with an elaborate coiffure of two twisted conical forms flanking a central braided form on top of the head. Possibly made by Ogoni or Ibibio peoples of southern Nigeria. This coiffure is seen in masks made by both peoples, however, the shape of the eyes has been seen in Ogboni masks. Provenance: Property of a Prominent Grosse Pointe, MI Collector

Glued repairs to the hair on the left and right sides of the mask. The ears appear to have been re-attached as well. Rubbing to the pigment. | Please note all lots show signs of wear commensurate with age and use, and the lack of a statement regarding condition does not imply the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from defects or the effects of aging.
