UTAGAWA KUNISADA II (JAPANESE, 1823-1880), WOODBLOCK PRINTS, C. 1852, 2 PCS., H 14", L 9 1/2":A group of two Utagawa Kunisada vertical oban woodblock prints from the series "The Book of the Eight Dog Heroes". The first depciting "Actor Kataoka Ichizo I as the Boatman Kajikuro", the second depicting "Actor Nakamura Utaemon IV as Yamabayashi Fusahachi". Both signed "Kunisada ga" in toshidama cartouche. Each bearing censors' seals and blockcutter's marks. No visible repairs, with surface dirt, light handling creases, corners dog-eared, scattered loses and wear to edges, and light toning throughout.
